Internet Access Far From Home

Today, Internet access is not just for business men and women any longer. Travelers of all kinds are using the internet for e-mail, uploading vacation photos, checking flight information, etc. There is a real need for being connected when away from home. Hotels, Airports, Cruise lines and Airlines have heard of the needs of us travelers and have acted on them. And some even offering free internet access. Here are some things to keep in mind when traveling or making plans to travel.

Hotels
Choose accommodations that offer free wireless internet. Also, Make sure the signal reaches all the rooms, so you can avoid having to use a public access area. There are websites you can visit, that can show you which hotels have free internet service.

Air
Some airports offer free internet, but most don't. Although you can purchase it through Boingo, which offers wireless access in most airports. Also Aircell's Gogo provides in-flight service for most major airlines. They both offer pay-as you-go. So make sure to check before you leave, so there is no sticker shock.

Cruise
Most cruise lines have access to the Internet. But you may have to go to one of their common rooms. Depending on the ship's package, you will be charged for this service. It can go for around 50 cents per minute, or they may charge a flat rate for a limited period of time.

Rail
Amtrak offers limited access at a few stations, and on- train service on limited routes. The good news is they are working on improving their Internet services.
